Launch of MelDIR 80x60 pixel Thermal Diode Infrared Sensor

Mitsubishi Electric added a new product to its Mitsubishi Electric Diode InfraRed (MelDIR) sensor lineup on July 1, 2021. The new infrared sensor features a wide field of view and high 80x60 pixel resolution for applications including security, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and people counting. The new MelDIR accurately distinguishes between humans and other heat sources and enables the identification of specific human behavior, such as walking, running or raising hands, with faster frame rate and optimized sensitivity correction. And, Mitsubishi Electric provides user-support tools that help shorten development time for customers. The MelDIR has various applications, including the “kizkia-Knight” video analysis solution, developed by Mitsubishi Electric Information Systems Corporation, which uses “Maisart” (Mitsubishi Electric’s AI creates the State-of-the-ART in technology). “kizkia-Knight” is able to detect falling people and other accidents automatically, even in poorly-lit areas or places where privacy considerations are necessary, such as rest rooms. In addition, MelDIR has been already installed in the “Kirigamine” FZ/Z series, the deluxe model of Mitsubishi Electric’s air conditioner for Japan.
