itsubishi Plastics' plant in Shanghai (photo) molds bodies for TVs and computer monitors. Mitsubishi Chemical coordinates sales and purchasing in China through a Hong Kong subsidiary. Mitsubishi Rayon produces textiles in Qingdao and high-grade esters in Suzhou and has an office in Hong Kong.

Transporting products and raw materials between China, Japan, and other regions is the work of two Mitsubishi leaders in transport services: NYK Line and Mitsubishi Logistics. NYK Line operates in China through two ship agents in Shanghai and Hong Kong and through two overland logistics companies, also in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Mitsubishi Logistics operates in China through a warehousing company and transport company in Shanghai, a forwarding company in Hong Kong, and representative offices in Beijing and Shanghai.

The Mitsubishi financial institutions are especially active in China. Tokio Marine operates in China through a subsidiary in Hong Kong, a branch in Shanghai (photo), and offices in seven other cities. Meiji Life maintains a subsidiary in Hong Kong and an office in Beijing and is negotiating to purchase an equity stake in a Chinese life insurer. Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi has a Hong Kong subsidiary, too, and a branch network that spans seven Chinese cities. Mitsubishi Trust does business in China through a banking subsidiary in Hong Kong and a leasing company in Bejing and maintains offices in Beijing and Shanghai.

Dai Nippon Toryo, a Mitsubishi company that manufactures paint and special coatings, also has invested in Chinese manufacturing. It makes and sells paint in China through a Kunshan-based affiliate.

Mitsubishi Corporation operates in China through numerous operations. It coordinates flows of trade and financing through its subsidiaries and offices throughout China. The company also invests in resources development and manufacturing at a large and growing range of Chinese project sites.

Mitsubishi Electric is the biggest Mitsubishi employer in China, by far. It conducts manufacturing, marketing, and other activities through more than a score of companies in the Middle Kingdom. Products manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric in China include semiconductor devices, other electronic components, home appliances, office machines, air conditioners, elevators and escalators, and equipment for power supply systems, among others.

Mitsubishi Cable Industries manufactures and markets high-frequency coaxial communications cables at a joint venture in Chengdu. It also coordinates sales of cable and other products through anoffice in Hong Kong. And it provides customer support and related services at an office in Shanghai. sf16

sf11 Mitsubishi Motors has joined hands with partners in Shenyang and Harbin to manufacture automotive gasoline engines and other automotive components. Yet another company manufactures vehicles with Mitsubishi Motors technology in Leng Shuitan (photo).

China has become a big production center for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' air conditioner operations. The company makes industrial air conditioners in Qingdao (bottom) and residential air conditioners in Jiangmen (top). It also engineers equipment for steel manufacturing in China and makes steel outfittings for ships there. The company provides customer support and conducts other activities through subsidiaries and offices in Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong. sf18sf19

Another Mitsubishi company that manufactures products in China is Nippon Mitsubishi Oil. That company produces lubricating oil at a joint venture with a local partner in Tianjin. sf22
