Mitsubishi Driver Is First Female Winner of Paris-Dakar Rally

Jutta Kleinschmidt (at right in photo), driving a Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero, has become the first woman ever to win the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally. With codriver Andreas Schulz, she captured the historic victory in suitably dramatic style. Kleinschmidt pulled into the aggregate lead for the first time on January 20 in the penultimate stage of the 20-day, 10,000-kilometer race. Her overall time was barely two-and-a-half minutes faster than that of fellow Mitsubishi driver Hiroshi Masuoka.
