Closer ties with Boeing Company are part
of the Mitsubishi companies' growing activity in space technologies.
Managements at the Mitsubishi companies regard space as the
fourth phase of infrastructure--after land, sea, and sky--for
enhancing the quality of life. With an eye to fulfilling that
potential, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries,
and Boeing recently announced a three-way collaboration. The
companies announced in June that they will explore opportunities
together in such projects as the International Space Station
(above).
"Boeing has partnered with Japan for more
than 40 years," exclaimed Jim Albaugh, the head of Boeing's
Space and Communications unit. "We have forged mutually
beneficial relationships with both Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
and Mitsubishi Electric."
In addition to the three-way collaboration, Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Electric also continue to
deepen bilateral ties with the world's largest aerospace company.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Boeing, which long have worked
together on aircraft and rocket systems, have begun cooperating
in several phases of commercial space development. Mitsubishi
Electric and Boeing, meanwhile, have announced a strategic
alliance that will encompass a vast range of space-based communications
and other aerospace projects.
