Qatar's
Saeed Al-Hajri, in his first Dakar rally, placed sixth in
a Mitsubishi L200. And Frenchman Luc Alphand, a former Downhill
World Skiing champion, placed seventh overall in winning
the Super Production Diesel class in a Pajero. Eight-place
finisher Klever Kolberg, of Brazil, also competed in a Pajero.
Kleinschmidt was a gracious runner-up: "We
had problems with the transmission during the race and I
am happy with second place under the circumstances. For
sure, we will come back next year and try and take a second
win on the Dakar. I am pleased for Hiroshi and for the team." |
