| Top executives
of 15 Mitsubishi companies visited China in December to
reaffirm the friendship between the worlds most-populous
nation and Japans largest community of companies.
The visit coincided with the 30th anniversary of the establishment
of formal diplomatic relations between the Peoples
Republic of China and Japan. It included talks with Chinas
then-President Jiang Zemin and other national and municipal
officials.
The Mitsubishi executives also met with a gathering of some
600 university students and faculty members in Shanghai.
That event included presentations by Mitsubishi Corporation
chairman and mission leader Minoru Makihara and four other
executives.
In Beijing, the Mitsubishi companies held an exhibition
to highlight their continuing contribution to industrial
and economic development in China. Also on display were
works from the Asian Festival of Childrens Art, sponsored
by the Mitsubishi Public Affairs Committee, publisher of
the Mitsubishi Monitor.
Decembers
visit was the third delegation of top executives that the
Mitsubishi companies have dispatched collectively to China.
The first was in 1972, when the visiting executives met
with Premier Zhou Enlai in advance of the establishment
of Sino-Japanese diplomatic ties. Another mission traveled
to China in 1997 and met with Jiang Zemin.
