This car show benefited the Special Olympics, which
provides opportunities for people who have mental
disabilities to enjoy sports and take part in athletic
competitions. |
The Mitsubishi Electric America
Foundation promotes worthy causes through grants to charities
and through promoting employee volunteerism. An annual
award by the foundation honors the best volunteer project
by employees at a Mitsubishi Electric operation in the
United States.
This year's
award recipient was a car show staged by employees at
an automotive electronics plant in Mason, Ohio. The show
raised funds for the Special Olympics. Four aspects of
the car show appealed to the judges:
- It took place at the initiative
of employee volunteers--more than 30% of the plant employees
participated.
- It allowed disabled young people
to take part in the Special Olympics who wouldn't have
been able to otherwise.
- It featured excellent organization
and elicited first-time participation from lots of employees
and family members.
- It demonstrated the value of teamwork
in a manner that employees at other operations can emulate.
