What
has deservedly captured the most attention in the D2H is
Nikon's newly developed LBCAST sensor. Nikon engineers have
designed the sensor to read two channels of data from each
pixel simultaneously. That is part of the reason for the
quantum leap in image processing speed.
Nikon has also reduced power consumption and
minimized dark noise from the sensor, and it has done that
while improving image quality, as well as increasing speed.
The company has fine-tuned the LBCAST sensor to make the
most of Nikon's famed Nikkor lenses. The resultant image
quality is ample for even the most-demanding professionals.
A New Market Leader
Early reports suggest that the
D2H is poised to become the professional's first choice
for sports photography and for other photojournalism. The
D2H's ability to take up to eight high-resolution photographs
per second satisfies the split-second demands presented
by sports and athletics. The D2H is the world's first digital
camera capable of continuous, high-resolution shooting at
that speed. And it can maintain that blazing speed for up
to 40 consecutive JPEG or 25 consecutive RAW images.

Another indication of the
D2H's speed and responsiveness is the incredibly brief shutter
time lag. At only 37 milliseconds, that lag is the shortest
in any digital single lens reflex camera. It makes the D2H
as responsive as Nikon's top-of-the-line F5 film camera.
Also contributing to the responsiveness of the D2H is the
instant power-up. The D2H is ready to shoot as soon as you
are. And when you start shooting, advanced, 11-area automatic
focusing helps ensure reliably sharp focus regardless of
photographic conditions.
Photographers can use the Nikon Speedlight flash
accessory to achieve creative lighting effects with wireless
multiple flash. They can also use a wireless transmitter
accessory to send their photos anywhere immediately.
