Nippon Oil: Making Science Exciting for Children

On three days in January and February 2005, Nippon Oil invited children from the city of Yokohama to a seminar, ENEOS Children's Science Class, which was held at the company's Central Technical Research Laboratories.
The class is a part of Nippon Oil's social contribution program, and offers children an opportunity to have fun while learning about science, energy and petroleum. The extracurricular program makes use of various company technologies to instruct about oil and lubricants, structural color (an environment-friendly way to make color), and fuel cells. Taught in an easily understood manner by the labs' young staff, the class involves both experimentation and quizzes.
Children who participated in the program enjoyed making structural colors and learning about the role of hydrogen in fuel cells. Many were interested to learn about all the technologies and products that came from petroleum.
