Nippon Oil: Nurture by Nature
Mitsubishi Electric: Hit a Ball and Make a Wish

Hands-on training gives a feel for nature.

Nippon Oil, recognized throughout Japan under the ENEOS brand, is taking active steps to deepen the knowledge and respect for Mother Nature among its employees.

Special outdoor camps, named Environmental Volunteer Leaders' Seminars, will be held four times a year for company employees from all over the country. The aim is to create awareness of nature and environmental issues and promote active volunteering for environmental action. The first camp was held for two days in May 2005 in Yamanashi Prefecture.
At the camps, participants receive expert training in forest management, allowing them to study environmental and natural preservation topics with their five senses as they gain the basic skills and experience needed for volunteer work in woodlands and forests.
Besides taking lectures on the ecosystem of the verdant highland forests, participants undertake such activities as walking at night without a flashlight to appreciate the sounds and scents of nature. They also try their hands at thinning and pruning the forests, an activity that is essential to the growth of healthy forests and woodlands.

Organizers of MEAA's successful 2005 charity Golf Scramble

Swinging a golf club under the high blue sky and strolling on velvet greens can make a child's world better.
Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc. (MEAA), a leading manufacturer and supplier of customized powertrain, body and chassis products in the United States, has for five years organized golf tournaments to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Foundation is an international nonprofit organization that grants wishes to children between the ages of 3 and 18 with life-threatening or terminal illnesses, such as leukemia or cystic fibrosis. The organization funds and arranges the activities they dream about doing.
MEAA launched this annual program to help children throughout the world. In June 2005, its fifth tournament was held at The Shaker Run Golf Club in Ohio, where 160 enthusiastic golfers helped raise US$20,000, including a matching grant of US$4,000 from the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation. This amount is generally enough to realize the dreams of four children, and among them, the committee hopes to include two local children with cystic fibrosis.
