The
Czech Republic lies in the heart of
Europe neighboring Poland, Germany,
Austria and Slovakia. Tourists discover
the fascinating beauty of the capital
Prague, taste wines in picturesque Moravia,
hike or ski the wooded mountains; others
cruise on the Vltava River or lounge
in numerous spas. Hardly anyone leaves
Czech without tasting world-famous Pilsner
beer or buying a souvenir made of Bohemian
glass.

The
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Europe,
Ltd. Prague Liaison Office was established
in 1996 to develop business for MHI
in Central and Eastern Europe. Our office
is in Prague near the city's historic
center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Having more than a thousand years of
history little touched by wars and natural
disasters, Prague portrays a vivid story
of European architectural development
from the Romanic and Gothic periods
to post-modern times. Prague still retains
much of its medieval layout, and its
street facades portray all architectural
styles and periods, including Classicism,
Baroque, Rococo and most splendidly,
Art Nouveau, wonderfully presenting
long years of history in one place.
A perfect example of continuous architectural
development is Prague Castle, with foundations
dating to the 9th century. It embraces
the Cathedral of St. Vitus, begun in
1344 and completed in 1929. Prague Castle
is located on the top of a hill, and
from the downtown, can be reached by
crossing Prague's oldest bridge, named
after the Emperor Charles IV, who commissioned
its construction in 1357.
