Young
or old, rich or poor, amateur or professional doesn't
matter. The only things that do are the love for
capturing snapshots of life's moments and the desire
to showcase these to like-minded people—and,
if possible, win an attractive prize in the process.
If the above sounds like you, grab your
trusty old shooter and dust off the lens because
camera giant Nikon
will soon be accepting entries for one of the world's
most prestigious photo competitions, the 31st Nikon
Photo Contest International.
The competition, open to contestants of all nationalities,
will accept entries from September 1 to midnight
November 30, either by conventional mail or the
Internet. Should you plan to do the latter, however,
you'd better hurry—only the first 20,000 JPEG
images will be accepted, and if past competitions
are anything to go by there will be a lot
of people competing.
In the 30th contest alone, organizers
received a total of 31,000 images submitted by 10,000
entrants from 117 countries. Since the competition
began in 1969, the contest has attracted over 1,220,000
images from some 290,000 photographers. Needless
to say, sifting through this staggering amount to
pick the winners is not done in a flash.
