Nippon Oil employees and their families took part in voluntary forestry conservation activities in the designated “ENEOS Forest” in Nara Prefecture as part of the company’s environmental conservation activities.
The group revisited the area where 180 Japanese ash trees were planted in December 2005 and verified that they were not damaged by recent heavy rains. The volunteers weeded and thinned the trees to give the saplings sufficient light and constructed a boardwalk to ensure that the young trees are not trampled on.
Members of the group were overheard commenting variously that the activities were far more enjoyable than expected. Many hoped that time given to these activities would be expanded. Others were surprised to discover how fast the trees were growing. The day gave the participants a chance to realize the power of nature and experience the fun and importance of forest conservation.
These activities support forest conservation in a designated area of undeveloped forest through a partnership between the local authority and the National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization.
Employees of Nippon Oil, which has long supported the activities of Nippon Professional Baseball, have a special fondness for Japanese ash trees, as they are the traditional wood of baseball bats.

Simultaneously with the launch of the new Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi Motors began the “Pajero Forest and Local Mountain Restoration Initiative” in the foothills of the Southern Japanese Alps in Yamanashi Prefecture in order to conserve and cultivate Japan’s forests, the condition of which is deteriorating.
The “Pajero Forest” activities will help conserve Yamanashi Prefecture’s fragile environment
Three hectares of the prefecture’s forests have been designated as the “Pajero Forest,” to be cleared of choking underbrush, planted and thinned by the company for at least the next seven years. The project is being carried out in conjunction with Oisca International, which has much experience in environmental conservation projects in Japan and around the world, and with the cooperation of Yamanashi Prefecture, which has advocated corporate participation in forestry projects.
Thus far, Mitsubishi Motors has encouraged SUV owners to strive towards a lifestyle of closeness and coexistence with nature through campaigns such as the “GRAN OFF” (great day off) campaign promoted on its website. The aim of this campaign is to make this lifestyle even more proactive through the conservation of local natural resources.
