● Hi everybody! A warm greeting from this strip of land called Chile, more specifically from ConcepciónCity in the south, where we are enjoying nice summer weather. Concepción City is the second largest city in Chile, after the capital Santiago. Founded in 1550 by Spanish conquerors, the conquistadores, it is located 520 km south of the capital and some 1,100 km north of the vast, majestic and wild Patagonia region.
  ● Chile has a strong forestry industry and large pine and eucalyptus plantations. At our company, Forestal Tierra Chilena Ltda. (owned 50/50 by Mitsubishi Paper Mills and Mitsubishi Corporation), three Japanese staff members work together with 25 Chilean colleagues to
manage the company's 12,000 hectares of land, of which 9,000 are eucalyptus plantations. The main forests extend into a region with great natural scenery, with the Pacific Ocean and the Andes not far away.
  ●
Our main objective is to grow healthy eucalyptus trees for paper production, and the entire production of logs is sent to Japan as chips. We grow and harvest the trees here in the southern part of the country.
●Harvesting occurs 12 years after plantation, which is done using seedlings grown at our own plant nursery facilities. From plantation to harvest, it is important to control and monitor such things as the tree growth rate and weed growth to ensure a larger harvest.
●Our wood is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which sets strict forest management standards. This means that we are committed to taking care of our environment and keeping our forests for the future.
  ● In addition to Chile's great natural beauty, we can also enjoy nice Chilean wine, a gift from the Earth.
