Tokyo is a veritable forest of skyscrapers,
with many buildings standing as high as 200 m, and this has contributed to the
need for a 600-m tower that can ensure reliable digital broadcasts. The Tokyo
Sky Tree®, a tower of approximately 610 m, is now being built to meet this
demand, with 2012 targeted for the start of operations.
Located in the heart of a major metropolis, the tower will be exposed to acidic
rain, auto emissions and other harsh elements. Furthermore, as one of the world’s
tallest towers, the painting—and repainting—of the structure will
be a very tall order. Therefore, it was vital to select a highly durable paint,
with superior anti-corrosive properties. After an intensive investigation, a
fluoric resin paint named V-FLON HB was selected; developed by Dai Nippon Toryo (DNT), V-FLON HB is a highly durable, thick-coating paint. An original color
has also been chosen for the tower, based on an extremely faint hue of indigo
blue, which is a traditional color of Japan. |

| Children in the world’s poorest
countries could benefit from a lifetime of protection from vaccine-preventable
diseases thanks to the sale of Vaccine Bonds to retail investors in Japan by
companies of the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG). Vaccine Bonds are issued
by the International Finance Facility for Immunisation (IFFIm) to support the
activities of the GAVI Alliance, a global partnership of nations, international
organizations and other parties, working to immunize children in developing countries.
By issuing the bonds, IFFlm is able to convert long-term funding commitments
received from national governments into immediately available cash |

resources.
In Japan, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi
UFJ, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking, and Mitsubishi UFJ Securities will be
supporting the sale of Vaccine Bonds for MUFG. The bonds are expected to raise
more than 10 billion yen. “We believe we can make a contribution to society
by arranging the sale of these Vaccine Bonds and also offer our clients an opportunity
to contribute to society through their investment activities,” said a spokesperson
for MUFG.
