In Richmond, there are plenty of events and activities for the budding sports enthusiast.
The Monument Avenue 10k Race was voted one of the best running contests in the country by USA Today, putting our local race on par with annual marathons in Boston, Chicago and San Francisco. Richmond’s annual event takes all 37,000 runners down tree-lined Monument Avenue, which is dotted with historic statues and surrounded by beautiful Southern homes. The
festivities include bands who entertain racers with their music and a costume contest. The race draws runners
from around the world to compete for the 1st place prize of $2000.
Richmond offers diverse options for athletes of all skill levels. Parks throughout the city have lighted tennis courts and baseball diamonds. There is a sports and social club, with over 3,000 members, that organizes dodge ball, volleyball and softball games among other several other sports and I have been involved in an amateur soccer league that has quadrupled in size in only six years. Richmond truly is a great sporting city!
Richmond Virginia City at the Crossroads
Located midway between New York and Florida, Virginia is the gateway to the southern United States. Richmond is located in the rolling hills of the central piedmont region. The site of Richmond, at the fall line of the James River, was settled by Englishmen from the first settlement Jamestown in 1609. Since that time the James River has provided a means for trade, commerce, tourism, and travel. From Richmond it is only two hours to the mountainous west with skiing, hiking, and vineyards. Two hours to the
east finds the flat sandy coastal plain of the Atlantic Ocean for excellent fishing, sailing, and swimming.
At this time of year outdoor enjoyment of Spring is especially favored. Local gardens and parks showcase the arrival of Spring with tours and festivals. The Japanese garden at Maymont Park is especially beautiful this time of year as are the many themed gardens of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. There is much to do before the heat of summer comes.
MGC Advanced Polymers Work
As plant engineer at MGC Advanced Polymers, I am responsible for insuring the plant equipment is maintained in proper working order and all projects are implemented according to plan. After a busy day at work, one of my favorite activities is white water kayaking on the James River in Richmond VA.
The James River is a great kayaking river because of its ease of access and the variety of water it offers. The upper stretch provides a peaceful float over small rapids suitable for beginning kayakers or families with small children. The lower
section of river has many different channels that contain large rapids that challenge the families with small children. The lower section of river has many different channels that contain large rapids that challenge the experienced kayaker. At high water flows, the fast moving river with giant rapids can give one the feeling of adventure and excitement that many travel thousands of miles to experience. Whatever your kayaking skill, you can have an enjoyable day on the river.

from Shanghai Shanghai- A Blend of Chinese and Western Cultures
I came to Shanghai when the Shanghai Representative Office of Mitsubishi Kakoki Kaisha (MKK) was established in May 2004. The office mainly undertakes machinery manufacturing, the construction of various complete sets of equipment and the task of marketing research. With the expansion of the parent company’s business in China, Ryoka Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., which mainly sells oil purifiers, was established in Shanghai in September 2008. As an inspector of finance, I should not only master capital flows, but also be well versed in the fiscal and tax policies of China in order to effectively promote the company’s operations by providing the most timely and capable services.
Old Houses and Lively Markets Contribute to Shanghai's Appeal
Shanghai is a blend of Chinese and western cultures, which is reflected by the old houses in the city. When looking carefully at the old houses, one always feels a spontaneous, unexplainable connection with them. As time passes, these old houses continue to stand quietly and calmly alongside the prosperity and noise of the city, reminding people of bygone days of purity and simplicity. A lot of stories also live on with these houses.
Shanghainese people have traditionally bought what they needed for the whole day at the market in the
morning. Stalls at the market are usually filled with different kinds of fresh vegetables by 6 o’clock in the morning. Moreover, there are various kinds of breakfast stalls at the entrances and exits of the market. Markets are fantastic places for housewives to demonstrate their intelligence. Bargaining is not only full of joy, but it also creates a kind of vitality. Shanghainese people always begin a new day with breakfast for the family, fresh vegetables and the longing for a better life.
Seeking to Serve as a Cultural Ambassador
Living in Shanghai, I am fascinated by the blending of Chinese and western cultures. One of my biggest dreams is to let Japanese people who work in Shanghai know more about this fantastic city so that they can become more familiar with Chinese culture and grow to love this country. To realize my dream, I teach Chinese as a volunteer and also try to inform Japanese workers about the culture here while participating in various
activities and organizations, such as tennis and golf clubs. I also gain some information through these activities and enhance my friendships with people involved in different industries. As a result, I think I can make many more contributions to MKK so its overseas business can develop even further.
