In Japan, the custom is for women to give
men chocolates on Valentine's Day, either
as a token of affection to those very close
to them, or simply to maintain good relationships
with co-workers or other male acquaintances.
One month later, on March 14, White Day is
celebrated, when Japanese men have a chance to
return the favor with a gift of marshmallows or
other sweets. Japan is unique in this respect; in
that Valentine's Day and White Day are not only
special occasions for couples to share their love,
but for maintaining friendly communications in
the workplace too.
