The Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011 caused
damage to the works of a number of Mitsubishi Companies
and in some cases they were forced to shut down
operations. Supported by kind and generous aid and assistance from
people both in Japan and in other countries, the companies affected
have devoted their resources to restoring the damaged works as soon
as possible.
Among those companies affected, Mitsubishi Chemical’s
Kashima Plant resumed some of its operations on May 20 and by
July had the whole production facilities running normally again.
Mitsubishi Paper Mills’ Hachinohe Works resumed production in
stages after restarting operations on May 24 and by November had
returned to full production. Kirin’s Sendai Brewery resumed the
beer brewing process in late September and was able to ship that
beer in early November. JX Nippon Oil & Energy’s Sendai Refinery,
the only refinery in the Tohoku region of Japan, restored part of its
shipment capability in early May, restored it fully in early November
and is currently working towards a resumption of production.
Mitsubishi Companies pray for the recovery of the quake-stricken
region at the earliest possible time as well as for the restoration of
their own affected plants. They continue to provide a wide range of
aid and assistance to everyone affected in the region. |

| Mitsubishi Paper Mills’ Hachinohe Works was badly damaged by the enormous
tsunami. At first it was thought that it would take a year to fully restore the damage
but with the assistance of MHI, Mitsubishi Electric and other Mitsubishi Companies,
restoration of the Hachinohe Works was achieved in a much shorter time.

the brewery and its business partners teamed up to restore the damage. The brewery
resumed shipments of beer after some 100 days of sterling effort involving cleaning
and clearing up, much of which had to be done manually.
