Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation recently unveiled its “FUSO-Concept II” next-generation product design for a heavy-duty truck eying the commercial vehicle market in 2032, the 100th anniversary year of the Fuso brand. According to Fuso, the commercial vehicles industry in twenty years will see the Asian transportation network fully interconnected to Europe. Auto-vehicle platooning systems will be a reality, battery and fuel cell technologies will have made significant advances
and the Asian Highway AH1 will connect Tokyo and Istanbul. The FUSO-Concept II is designed to improve aerodynamics and payload efficiency, uses solar panelgenerated hybrid technology and incorporates automated vehicle formation driving technology.
The exterior design reduces drag to a minimum using a smoothly rounded front end, grill shutter, deployable rear flap and under-spoiler. The cabin offers a comfortable living space with a higher roof and is integrated with the cargo compartment in a unitary design. The concept model retains the signature Fuso V-line, giving visual expression to windflow and projecting a powerful and elegantly aggressive appearance. Cameras around the body provide a 360 degree view for maximum safety.
FUSO-Concept II employs an integrated driving control system which monitors and assesses all parameters pertaining to vehicle operation. The drivers obtain all the information they need from onboard systems with minimum movement, allowing them to concentrate on driving while reducing fatigue. The glass-walled cockpit provides a roomy, comfortable and efficient space by embracing these changes in the driving environment and by leveraging Japan’s recognized expertise in such areas as small-item storage.
