The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU), on March 1 this
year, converted its representative offices in Bogotá, Colombia, and
Lima, Peru, to sub-branch status. BTMU also signed Memoranda
of Understanding with each government’s private investment
promotion arm (Colombia’s ProExport on April 30 and Peru’s
ProInversion on May 9) to attract Japanese private investment
and promote exports from the Andean nations. The two South
American countries are rich in mineral and energy resources, and
both nations promise significant economic growth through foreign
trade in these resources, as well as growing domestic demand for
them. The extended presence resulting from the new sub-branches
will allow BTMU to promote business in the region more actively by
expanding local customer coverage, shortening response time to
customer needs, and empowering and motivating staff. |

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has started full
production of its new Mirage model at Mitsubishi Motors Thailand’s
(MMTh¹) Laem Chabang Plant in Thailand. The new Mirage is
a “global compact car” designed to satisfy both demand for an
entry-level car in fast-growing emerging markets and demand
for superior environmental performance in advanced markets. To
ensure the same level of quality offered by vehicles produced at
MMC plants in Japan, a team of expert staff seconded from Japan
is inspecting all vehicles before shipment from the Thai plant and is
also training local inspectors. After its launch in Thailand on March
28, the Mirage will be introduced first in other ASEAN countries,
followed by Japan, Europe and then other global markets. The
Mirage will be brought to the Japanese market in late August. |
