Indian festivals celebrated by varied cultures add to the colours of the Indian heritage. Some festivals welcome the seasons of the year, like Baishakhi, Holi, etc. Others celebrate religious occasions, like Durga Puja, Diwali, Holi, Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Id-Ul-Zuha, Id-Ul-Fitir, Christmas, etc. In India, every region and every religion has something to celebrate. Vibrant colours, music, and festivity make the country come alive throughout the year.

One day, Devi and I went into the jungle to cut firewood. We played the stone game goti all day and got home late. We were really hungry and had to stop and rest on a bench. Devi was so hungry that she started to cry. To make her feel better, I reminded her that we would have roasted corn and soybeans when we got home.
