With 3 months to go to the end of 2012, Nikon India has already witnessed its fair share of excitement. Launching the flagship digital SLR camera – the Nikon D4 – along with the much-awaited D800 and D800E was a perfect start to the year. With the digital SLR receiving an outstanding response in the Indian market, Nikon further jostled the market with the Nikon 1 series and COOLPIX lineup of compact cameras, including
the android powered S800c. Nikon also launched the D3200 and the Sport Optics range. These new entrants were perfectly supported with marketing campaigns where this time around more focus was placed on online and social media.
Product launches were just part of the series of exciting events in 2012. This year also witnessed the geographic expansion of Nikon India with the opening of the New Delhi office. Supporting the new office are 19 Authorized service centers, 5 Nikon-owned Service Centers and 63 collection centers, and over 3000 partners spread
all across India.
More recently we had an “All India Partners’ Meet” where I had the opportunity to share our plans and initiatives on the digital marketing front. It was an excellent experience! While we still have a few months to go before we enter 2013, only God knows what surprises await us.
Being passionate about digital media it’s my great fortune to work with an imaging company like Nikon. Now today’s social media is all about click and share. Great pictures always have personality. Whenever I take a picture or a video to share with my friends, I’m telling something about myself.
In my time off I enjoy exploring new evolving technologies, gazettes and so on. Usually I go for window shopping and hands-on newly launched gazettes. The camera was a new subject to study. When I joined the company I found people talking about cameras, technical teams cracking jargons and making it simpler for others. I really enjoyed it.
Applying social media knowledge around images in a serious and professional approach is an excellent and challenging experience. It’s amazing to see people/fans eagerly sharing images and proudly enthusing about Nikon cameras on our social media pages. It gives me confidence and a big kick to realize how this photography culture has rooted itself in social media.
Another assignment I really like is the Nikon School workshops. These cater to the growing appetite of photography enthusiasts, offering specialized services and expert guidance. I have seen the impact of these activities on online platforms. Participants enjoy these sessions and share their feedback on the Nikon India social pages. I am really enjoying my work with Nikon India and my experiences don’t end here… but it would cover many more pages if only I had the space.

Sydney, the capital of the state of New South Wales, is the largest city in Australia and boasts one of the world’s most beautiful and famous harbours. Sydney also has vibrant and beautiful beaches, fantastic shops, restaurants, history and culture as illustrated by the iconic Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Centrepoint Tower, The Rocks and the famous Bondi and Manly beaches.
Sydneysiders enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle with something to do for locals and tourists all year round. Within an hour’s drive you can also visit the heritage listed Blue Mountains which were once considered “an impassable barrier” by our early settlers, offering another element of exploration totally different but in easy reach of the hustle and bustle of the city’s Central Business District.
NYK has a proud history in Australia, with the first international liner service arriving in Sydney in 1896. NYK
continued to be a part of shipping in Australia and this led to the establishment of NYK Line (Australia) Pty Ltd in 1993. The Head office in Sydney centralises the main service and support tasks of the liner business.
Having recently moved into a new central CBD office, NYK Line (Australia) has committed itself to being a future-looking company of choice, providing efficient and professional services to customers and the wider NYK Group.
I was born and bred in Sydney right next to the international Mascot Airport, and have been in the Shipping business for 40 years.
My first job was that of a Shipping Clerk. The first container ship berthed at Balmain in Sydney Harbour on the 3rd April, 1969 and we have seen the container Industry expand greatly through the 1970s, culminating in the opening of the Port Botany Container Terminal which was completed in 1979. With growing demand, a second Southern Terminal was opened in 1982. A third Container Terminal has now been commissioned and this is one of the most extensive and innovative port infrastructure projects undertaken in Australia in the last 30 years.
Container trade through the port was 2.036 million TEUs in the 2011/12 financial year, almost a third of Australia’s containerised trade. Strong trade growth is forecast to continue with Port Botany, now Australia’s second largest container port, generating more than $1.5 billion a year in economic activity for the Australian economy. The expansion will cement Port Botany’s position as one of the most important container ports in
the world. The Hutchison terminal is currently ready for fit-out and is due to be operating for trade by 2013.
Finally Sydney also has many students from overseas attending our Universities and colleges, whilst tourism plays a very large part in our economy as the city is relatively safe, has excellent eateries and accommodation and has a very temperate climate, although in summer it can reach in excess of forty degrees.
We hope you enjoy Sydney next time you visit.
