From September 1, 2012, European Union legislation bans the manufacture and import of all incandescent bulbs. In anticipation of this, Mitsubishi Chemical group-company Verbatim has unveiled a wide range of cost effective retrofit LED lamps for household use. Sustainability, Health and Comfort are the key elements of the KAITEKI concept. Verbatim’s LED-based solutions help to achieve all three. The LED lamps have a much longer lifetime and provide up to 85% energy savings over conventional bulb types with comparable light output. Designed as low cost replacements for general purpose lighting, the use of these retrofit and energy-efficient LED lamps is spreading rapidly.

Mitsubishi Plastics has recently established the Wuxi Lingshu Agricultural Film & Material Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary, in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China, to make specialized polyolefin films for agricultural greenhouses as part of a larger investment to grow its agribusiness in that country. Construction of the factory started in September 2012, with production and sales starting next summer. The new subsidiary will engage in the local production and sale of specially coated multi-layer polyolefin films which boast a much extended useful life over conventional PO film. This type of highly functional PO film is not yet widely used in China, but the market is expected to grow rapidly in the future as greenhouse farming becomes increasingly modernized and larger in scale.
