Sustainability in Hanoi, Where Tradition Meets the Present

Capital Place—An office building developed by Mitsubishi Estate in Hanoi

Capital Place—An office building developed by Mitsubishi Estate in Hanoi.

In 2019, a new, shiny building attracted my attention on my way back home for its modern, magnificent look. I thought to myself, “If I could work there one day...”, but never knew that in the next 2 years, this building would become my workplace. It later dawned on me that this was Capital Place, a joint development of Mitsubishi Estate and CapitaLand. In 2022, my wish came true: I joined Mitsubishi Estate Vietnam, “MEV.” Our branch was established in 2020 with the aim of expanding our development in northern Vietnam. While Capital Place, one of our large-scale investments in the North, has become the best international grade-A office building in Hanoi, being a dream workplace for all Hanoi office workers, I, as a new member of MEV, hope to contribute to the development of more projects of the same quality in the coming time.

Sustainability—the focused vision of the Mitsubishi Estate Group

In the Investment team, my daily task is sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities. My colleagues and I recently visited a potential site for a new high-rise residential building. This site is currently a green park and provides public amenities for surrounding residents. Therefore, if it is converted into a high-rise building, residents will be deprived of such a large open green space. In the end, after thorough consideration, we thought this should be best left a park and decided to drop the deal. This reminds me of the “Mitsubishi Estate Group Sustainability Vision 2050.” I was extremely impressed with our vision of becoming an ecosystem engineer and how much we pay attention to sustainability in our development. Indeed, real estate products live with the city and impact millions of people for probably 50 years or even 100 years. Therefore, it is critical that the developer puts sustainability in their development vision.

Hanoi, the culture-rich yet modern capital of Vietnam

Hanoi is the thousand-year-old capital of Vietnam with many historical and cultural relics such as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Imperial Citadel of Thang Long and Hoan Kiem Lake. It is said that Hanoi is like a museum where you can see the relics from ancient times and buildings from the feudal age as well as 20th-century French architecture. Hanoi is also known for its diverse cuisine such as Pho, Bun Cha (grilled pork with noodles and fish sauce), Cha Ca (grilled fish with noodle) and more.

In parallel with the preservation of its culture and tradition, Hanoi is developing into one of Vietnam’s largest economic centres with skyscrapers and modern infrastructure that rival other major cities in Asia. Visitors coming to Hanoi can enjoy the blended beauty of tradition and modernity.
