Bringing Hope to Life in Lovely Copenhagen with AGC Biologics

Engineering new API processes and facilities

I joined AGC Biologics in Copenhagen in March 2019 as a Process Engineer. At the time, this function was anchored in the Manufacturing Support area under the VP of Technical Operations. In April 2021, to strengthen the company and site growth, I was asked to step in as manager of a department dedicated to Process Engineering. The department’s key responsibilities include developing, evaluating, and optimizing end-to-end processes, equipment, and facilities, from conceptual design throughout the design stages, execution, commissioning, and qualification; selecting and integrating new equipment and services; and technology assessment of existing facilities or due diligence services.

Our expertise in pharmaceutical ingredients (API) products is based on our state-of-the-art knowledge of processes and GMP regulations within aseptic manufacturing. At the AGC Biologics Copenhagen site, I closely collaborate with several departments including procurement, quality, process development, and shopfloor teams. I deeply enjoy the dedication and innovative solutions that come with working in multidisciplinary teams.

We achieve challenging goals and targets together and get to help patients across the world by helping to bring new treatments to market.

About Copenhagen, Denmark

Being from Portugal, I am used to being close to the sea. One of the things that I love about Copenhagen is the proximity to the sea and the beautiful harbors and beaches around the area.

Within a month of moving to Denmark, I felt that this would be my “forever” home. Copenhagen (and Denmark in general) has great health services, access to a social network and leisure facilities, strong infrastructure and is overall a green city. I can bike everywhere, and if I am too tired to bike, public transport gets me anywhere I need to go. Copenhagen also has great parks for walking in nature and several urban gardens.

About myself and my hobbies

I live in a community in Copenhagen called Christiania. It began in 1971 as a abandoned military base and it is one of the top 5 tourist attractions in Copenhagen. I live in a kollektiv (a shared house with a communal economy and chores) together with 17 people ranging from 74 years old to 4 years old. We do several activities together such as making julekonfekt (a Danish Christmas treat).
