Global purpose, local promise

I joined Tokio Marine North America Services (TMNAS) ten years ago, starting in training and communications. Early on, I supported several Global Leadership Training Programs, where I was introduced to Tokio Marine’s rich history, purpose, unique business model, and approach to growth. What struck me most was that while many employees knew their local company’s story, far less understood the larger Tokio Marine brand and what makes our federated structure so unique.

The more I learned, the more I appreciated our federated model. Our local businesses are the key to our success, while Tokio Marine provides the scale, support, and opportunities that help them grow.

As an English and Communications major in college, I’ve always enjoyed writing. In the corporate world, I wanted to focus on how messaging can support employee engagement and in return, business success. With the support of my leaders, I moved into a global communications role five years ago and now serve as a Senior Communications Manager, working closely with Tokio Marine Holdings on projects that communicate Tokio Marine’s global brand both internally and externally. I still get to work on our global leadership training programs, communicating our global brand as thoughtfully as possible. Our international operations are growing rapidly, and communicating the value of our “global purpose, local promise” methodology has become more important than ever.

Some of the projects I'm most proud of include launching our global intranet, building the infrastructure to communicate global messages effectively, and producing Tokio Talks, our global webinar series that highlights the expertise of our employees from all over the world. I’ve also helped integrate branding and communications strategy into our global leadership development programs. While my responsibilities have evolved, what I still enjoy most is creating opportunities for people to learn from one another, build connections across geographies, and take pride in saying, "I work for my Group Company—a member of Tokio Marine Group."

A deep connection rooted in Japan

One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the opportunity to work with colleagues across the Tokio Marine Group, including in Japan, North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. This also includes the opportunity to travel to Tokyo, Japan, usually once a year – something I look forward to and feel very privileged to have this experience. Working for a company with Japanese roots has also been a valuable learning experience. I've come to appreciate the tradition and emphasis on long-term thinking. I also feel strongly that Tokio Marine works every day to deliver on our shared purpose: To be there for our clients and society in times of need.

Since stepping into a communications-focused role, I’ve had the opportunity to help lead our Tokio Marine Global Communications Network, meant to connect communications and marketing leaders from our Group Companies around the world (USA, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, UK, etc.). After several years of virtual meetings, we finally had the opportunity to meet in person, in Tokyo, in November 2025. The dedication we’d all put into staying connected and supporting each other came to life. We focused on how to interpret global messaging from Tokio Marine Holdings into localized, employee-relevant versions. More importantly, we had fun and got to enjoy the rich culture of Japan together. This was a deeply rewarding experience.

What makes Tokio Marine special is its ability to combine global reach with local expertise. Every region brings unique perspectives and strengths, and the opportunity to connect those perspectives is one of the things I enjoy most about my role. Being part of a truly global organization has broadened my outlook and deepened my appreciation for different cultures.
