TCS Japan relocates its head office to Azabudai Hills
What is the aspiration ―the concept― of the new office?

Tata Consultancy Services Japan (TCS Japan) moved its Tokyo head office to Azabudai Hills (Minato-ku, Tokyo) in October 2023. Together with the Roppongi office (located in Roppongi T-Cube, Minato-ku, Tokyo) that was newly established at the same time, the Tokyo head office aims to promote co-creation with its customers and collaboration among its associates to generate further innovation. We had an interview with Michio Teramura of the HR Operations Support Team, who was involved in the project for the new office, and Tsutomu Nakajima, business relationship manager at MC Business Sub Unit, Trading Business Unit, who will collaborate with the customers in the new office, about the concept of the new office and how it will be used.

Offering globally-connected experience in Tokyo

TCS Japan has consistently supported its customers with the vision of becoming a Gateway to Globalization and a Catalyst for Technology-led Business Innovation since its business launch in July 2014, providing one-stop IT and digital services to a wide range of companies.

“We design our clients' business transformation encompassing the trinity of service, technology, and business as one. In line with our vision, the new office is positioned as a gateway to connect our clients with TCS' global innovations, best practices, capabilities and scale. The Azabudai office will provide a broad overview of TCS' value and achievements, while the Roppongi office will allow visitors to see how TCS actually delivers its services by linking up its global locations. Many people in Japan may have the impression that TCS is simply one of the members of a major Indian conglomerate, and we feel the public as a whole is yet to aware that TCS is recognized worldwide as an IT services company with the world’s second highest brand value. The design of the office is focused on getting customers know TCS’ strengths and characteristics first, and then providing them with a space to directly experience what kind of initiatives they can have with TCS." (Teramura)

One of the key components of the customer experience is the Customer Zone in the Azabudai office, designed around the concept of The first TCS experience.

The Welcome Lounge is the gateway to our new office. A giant wall-mounted monitor represents the Gateway to Globalization, the company’s corporate vision. Moving to the Encounter space, visitors will see an overview of what they are going to experience on the day.

“The Explore space is a place to explore TCS visually and more deeply. Here, through an immersive, mini-theater-like experience, guests will see how TCS addresses its diverse customers’ challenges, realizes transformations, and delivers value leveraging its variety of methodologies, scale, and pool of talent. Also, it has spaces to give presentations tailored to the interests of respective customers to generate new ideas and methods. In a showcase space named Envision, for example, we will offer the guests an opportunity for envisioning the future, with the explanations and demonstrations of our services and solutions that focus on industry- and customer-specific challenges. The new office also introduces our latest and ever-evolving best services and practices, as well as providing a space where visitors can connect with TCS’ global associates online and discuss with them. We hope that our customers will make the full use of our new office to have a wide range of experience." (Nakajima)

The name of each area shows what the visitors can experience there.

“In creating the respective areas, we focused on sound, images, and space so that each area can take visitors out of the hustle and bustle of their daily life and have them feel an extraordinary atmosphere through all five senses. The areas are also designed to provide visitors with opportunities to experience projects undertaken by TCS and to engage in more in-depth discussions that will lead them to their next step. I am confident that we have successfully created valuable spaces, putting together our associates’ passion and wisdom.” (Teramura)

From design thinking through to simulations: Spaces that stimulate visitors’ all five senses

In a space that embodies Catalyst for Technology-led Business Innovation where innovations can be realized at speed through advanced co-creation, visitors can have hands-on experience of cutting-edge technologies. Some facilities in the previous office have been refurbished and relocated to the new office, such as TCS Pace Port™ Tokyo where visitors can deepen their understanding of the Digital Art of the Possible, Design Studio Tokyo which is a space for co-creation with design thinking approach to guide visitors along the path to solving their challenges, and the Digital Continuity Experience Center (DCEC) which is a showroom for visitors to see, touch, and experience smart factories and driving simulators.

The Roppongi Office, designed with the concept of The partnering TCS experience, will also serve as a showcase for experiencing TCS' services. The office is connected to TCS’ service delivery hubs around the world, including PRISM Tokyo, an IT infrastructure operation hub based on TCS Japan’s unique hybrid model, and provides an up-close view of how TCS supports advanced system development and business operations for the Mitsubishi Group and other customers.

Regarding the associates’ working zones in both the Azabudai and Roppongi offices, they are designed as hot desking with no partitions. This allows its associates with diverse backgrounds and skills to communicate freely with each other, broadening their horizons and fostering a culture of mutual learning. The goal is to encourage the associates to grow as professionals and to further promote co-creation with customers.

“The new office is a Gateway to Globalization for everyone. We invite you to come and experience the global best practices and domain knowledge with TCS Japan as a gateway. We look forward to welcoming you to our new office, ready to provide you with first-hand experiences of our innovation, idea creation, and services that we have created with many leading companies around the world." (Nakajima)

“At the root of our new office’s concept of having visitors experience TCS’ history, technology, and services is our belief that those who actually provide services, i.e., human resources, are most important. TCS Japan has associates from 33 countries including Japan and India. In our new office, you will see how we work dynamically together with TCS’ global associates in a hybrid, cross-boundary environment. We believe that our new office will be a showcase for our diversity." (Teramura)
