Prof. Robert B. Jackson (US)
Department of Earth System Science, Stanford University
Reason for the Award: For contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through research on the carbon cycle

Robert B. Jackson, Professor, Department of Earth System Science, Stanford University
Professor Robert B. Jackson (US), an expert on the carbon cycle in terrestrial ecosystems such as forests, grasslands, and wetlands, has conducted pioneering research on the relationships among soils, vegetation, and soil bacterial communities. He has also quantified the balance of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, from natural ecosystems and from fossil fuel use. Since 2017, he has served as Chair of the Global Carbon Project (GCP), leading efforts to monitor and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Dr. Jeremy Leggett (UK)
Founder and CEO of Highlands Rewilding Ltd.
Inaugural Chairman of the Carbon Tracker Initiative
Reason for the Award: For his pioneering efforts to integrate climate change risks into financial and capital markets

Dr. Jeremy Leggett, founder and CEO of Highland Rewilding Ltd., and first chairman of the Carbon Tracker Initiative
As the inaugural Chairman of the Carbon Tracker Initiative (CTI), Dr. Jeremy Leggett (UK) introduced the concept of the "carbon bubble," highlighting the economic risks associated with fossil fuel assets. Through CTI’s activities, he influenced investors and policymakers, advancing the divestment movement. In addition, as a practical effort to balance economic activity with environmental conservation, he founded one of the UK’s leading solar energy companies. More recently, he has been spearheading initiatives in Scotland to connect ecological restoration with community prosperity.

About the Blue Planet Prize
The Blue Planet Prize was established by the Asahi Glass Foundation in 1992, the same year the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Earth Summit) was held. The Prize is awarded annually to two individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to environmental conservation and the restoration of the Earth’s environment. It recognizes innovative ideas, scientific understanding,
countermeasures, and practical initiatives rooted in science and technology, including the humanities and social sciences. Each laureate receives a certificate, a commemorative trophy, and a prize of US$500,000.
The Asahi Glass Foundation was founded in 1933 as the Asahi Foundation for Chemical Industry Promotion, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the founding of Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. (now AGC Inc.). In 1990, the Foundation expanded its activities and launched the Commendation Program, and at the same time it was renamed to the Asahi Glass Foundation. In 2018, the Foundation took over the scholarship program due to a merger with the Asahi Glass Scholarship Foundation.
Today, the Foundation strives to contribute to the creation of a society that can transmit the genuine wealth of human civilization through a wide range of initiatives. These include providing research grants to universities, offering grant-type scholarships to students, recognizing achievements that have contributed toward the resolution of global environmental problems, and supporting young people’s efforts to address environmental challenges.
